Ed Perlmutter is a native to the 7th District of Colorado, and specifically Jefferson County. Ed worked at his father’s concrete business, while attending school at the University of Colorado. While attending he studied political science, history and economics; graduating in 1975 . In 1987 he received his Juris Doctor.
Before moving into politics, Ed Perlmutter was the director for the law firm of Berenbaum Weinshienk which specialized in commercial litigation. He also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado Bar Association. He is currently a Trustee for the Midwest Research Institute.
Ed began his political career when he was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 1994, the first Democrat to hold his position in almost 30 years. In 2006 he was first elected to Congressionally represent Colorado’s 7th district and is currently serving his third term. During this time he has worked with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and is the co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition Energy Task Force.
When asked “What Will You Do for Atheist Voters?” Ed replied
Thank you for emailing Rep. Perlmutter asking how he intends to represent his atheists in Congress. The simple answer is he will continue to do what he is already doing. Regardless of religion, the constituents of Colorado’s Seventh District agree Congress’s priority should be creating jobs and economic recovery. Congressman Perlmutter works each day to achieve those goals. Republican legislation which promotes religious fundamentals on Americans is a disservice to our nation at a time when we should all roll up our sleeves and focus on solving problems.
